The 5 Biggest Color Trends of Spring/Summer 2021
The color trends shown on the Spring/Summer 2021 catwalks provided a welcome respite from sweats for most of 2020. However, while some fashion designers opted for color trends like dark, sad designs to reflect our pandemic-affected society, others opted for brighter hues to express a more upbeat outlook for the future.
This season’s vibrant hues might be attributed in part to the digital formats employed by well-known fashion designers to promote their spring 2021 collections. Vibrant color trends, exuberant forms, and eye-catching designs had a greater impression when viewed on a computer screen than minimalist neutrals.
The coronavirus has made face masks a must-have for the coming season, but these five color trends in fashion will give your 2021 wardrobe an uplifting boost with a jolt of color
Yellow
Designers were upbeat when questioned about their spring collection’s inspiration. In addition to reflecting designers’ optimism for the future, the marigold hue shown on the spring runways served to remind those who wore loungewear all winter of the fun of getting dressed in the morning. Illuminating, a brilliant yellow is Pantone’s 2021 Color of the Year pick.
On Etro’s, Marques’Almeida’s, Prada’s, Richard Malone’s, and Tory Burch’s runways, a cheery yellow hue was everywhere. In the collection designed by Miu Miu, warm colours like red, orange, and caramel brown were mixed with golden hues. Alberta Ferretti and Altuzarra’s marigold yellow dresses had us wishing for warmer weather. Jewelry, footwear, and accessories were all popular choices in the striking tone for the spring season. Yellow is truly one of the best color trends.
Pumpkin orange
The earthy pumpkin orange shade was one of the major color trends for spring/summer 2021. The autumnal colour stood out in a sea of mostly floral colours, making it feel out of place in the midst of spring. For the first time in years, the unnatural brilliant orange of previous spring seasons gave way to an exquisite tint with amber-brown undertones. The color is already proving to be a popular choice for the fall runways of New York Fashion Week, as Pantone correctly anticipated.
In addition to Altuzarra, Roksanda and Tod’s, the gingery shade was seen in their collections. Rust-hued staples from minimalist labels like The Row signalled a growing preference for year-round attire. Even in the winter, their unconstructed button-up shirts, pants, and midis look great. Maxi dresses in terracotta were featured at Dior, Tory Burch, Mara Hoffman, and Valentino, among others.
Mint green
Pastel colours aren’t something new for spring, but the mint green shown on the spring 2021 runways was as fresh as it had been in years. The soft green was a refreshing change after years of brightly coloured clothes.
In addition to Alberta Ferretti and Armani, the colour mint green was seen on the runway at Boss, Coperti, Ferragamo, and Miu Miu, among others. Puff-sleeved coats and skirts featured cool menthol green at Ulla Johnson, Max Mara, and Tibi. The calming colour made a big statement when paired with billowing monochromatic ensembles.
Mint, aquamarine, avocado, pistachio, and seafoam are some of the ingredients you’ll find in this category. It doesn’t matter what you call it; this spring, these color trends will be all over the place.
Bright red
As a key colour trend for Fall/Winter 2019, cherry red made a comeback on the Spring/Summer 2021 runways. Fashion houses like David Koma, Fendi, Givenchy, Mara Hoffman, Sacai, and Wales Bonner carried on the trend of monotone red outfits from the previous season on the runway this spring. Chanel, Hermès, Maison Margiela, Miu Miu, and Versace all used red as an accent colour.
Rick Owens and Stella McCartney’s spring collections featured streetwear in fiery red and light pink for a romantic twist. Etro’s vivid prints and colour blocking utilised this as well. Red is one of those color trends that can never not be a trend.
Pink
Fashionistas like Elle Woods, Regina George, and Sharpay Evens rejoiced when pink emerged as one of the top spring 2021 color trends. As a result, the color has shed its traditional connotations of being feminine and instead has acquired the role of a mood booster. Change your medium-wash jeans for a bright pair of Fuschia acid-washed jeans this spring.
There were shades of delicate peach and rich raspberry in Isabel Marant, Miu Miu, Rick Owens, and Rodarte. Considering how many seasons the runways had been lit up with neon, it’s no surprise that designers like Tom Ford and Versace continued to favour an eye-catching hot pink. Balmain and Valentino, on the other hand, let the bright colour stand out on its own with shirtdresses and power suits.
