How the Australian Fashion Week Street Style Was Color Packed
After suspending its 2020 schedule due to a pandemic that forced runway shows online, Australian Fashion Week has returned, with new companies, in-person events, and enough street style fashion to make up for Sydney’s fashion hiatus. The week-long event of Australian fashion week brought together fashion’s leading editors and influencers from throughout the country in the spirit of style, with runway shows by Rebecca Vallance, Bassike, Maggie Marilyn, and others. And, of course, they were appropriately attired for the occasion.
Attendees of the Australian fashion week were photographed in rainbow colours on the streets outside of the events. Butter yellow berets, brilliant blue leather jackets, mint green skirt suits, and bubblegum pink fur coats are just a few examples. Another surprise at the Australian fashion week was an orange cut-out maxi skirt with a matching cropped blazer, a pistachio-coloured suit from 1986, and an orange sherbert-coloured pocketbook. To put it another way, after a year of sweatpants, fashion is back — and it’s bigger than ever.
Allow Sydney’s fashion scene to teach you how to style colours for the next season.
Citrusy Lime
Most people are afraid of the bright lime green colour, but there’s no better time than now after the Australian fashion week to give it a try. What’s the secret to pulling it off? It’s best to use it sparingly. To make a style statement with street style fashion, pair the citrusy chartreuse with black to make the colour pop even more and give it a dramatic effect, and match your shoes and bags to the hue.
Blazing Orange
Brilliant orange is the best colour to wear after the Australian fashion week if you want to draw attention to yourself. The warm, eye-catching hue is likely to draw attention (literally) and make you stand out among the throng. Here are some ideas for how to wear the colour for a street style fashion look: To balance the vivid colour, go for a head-to-toe outfit but contrast your accessories—a white purse or dark grey bralette, as seen above—with a white bag or dark grey bralette.
Pretty In Pink
Pink is always in, as lifelong fans of Legally Blonde will know, and it’s back with a vengeance this season. The colour was omnipresent at Australian Fashion Week 2021, from lovely pastels to bold cerise. Pairing it with a psychedelic top inspired by the 1970s, or keeping the entire outfit light and bright—right down to the bag in street style fashion.
Cool Camel
A classic camel colour is one of the few colours that never goes out of style when it comes to street style fashion. Build your complete outfit around the elegant colour, whether it’s a full suit with a black top (one of our favourite pairings is camel and black) or by styling it with complementing tones. It’s a wardrobe staple that’s appropriate for any season.
